Living in Carnegie Hill
Museums, the Reservoir and a run of private schools give Carnegie Hill a settled, family-oriented character.
Museums and the park
Fifth Avenue holds the Neue Galerie, the Guggenheim, Cooper Hewitt and the Jewish Museum, and the Museum of the City of New York and El Museo del Barrio sit farther north. Across the avenue, the Reservoir path is a favorite loop of about 1.6 miles for walkers and runners.
Schools
The neighborhood is known for its private schools, including Dalton, Spence, Nightingale-Bamford, Convent of the Sacred Heart and Lycée Français de New York. Hunter College High School is a selective public school with admission by exam. Public school zoning follows your exact address, so confirm assignments with the NYC Department of Education.
Lexington Avenue
Between 86th and 96th Streets, Lexington works as a village-scale main street with cafés, groceries, bookstores and everyday services. Madison Avenue to the south adds boutiques and galleries.
Healthcare
Mount Sinai Hospital sits at the northern edge, along Madison and Fifth Avenues between 98th and 101st Streets.
