Carnegie Hill
A quieter, residential neighborhood built around the Fifth Avenue museums, the Central Park Reservoir and some of the city's best-known private schools.
The neighborhood is named for Andrew Carnegie, whose mansion at Fifth Avenue and East 91st Street is now the Cooper Hewitt museum. A historic district protects many of the townhouse blocks, and Lexington Avenue between 86th and 96th Streets works as a village-scale shopping street.
Boundaries vary by source. Most definitions run from East 86th to East 96th Street, between Fifth and Lexington Avenues, and some extend east to Third Avenue.
